ESPN reporting Coan hurt his foot at practice, it will require surgery and the will be out for several weeks.  With Illy, Neb and Purdue as their first 3 games they'll probably just ride the OL and RB-du-jour.  However, it is probably that red-shirt freshman Mertz that fills in.
