11W Community,
I saw the ticker on the bottom of the TTUN/Wisky game mention that today, November 14th, is the 50th anniversary of one of the darkest days in the history of sports. On November 14, 1970, Southern Airways flight 932, carrying 75 Marshall players, coaches, boosters, a charter coordinator, and crew, crashed just before landing in Huntington, WV. All were killed. They were returning from a game against East Carolina, which they had lost 17-14. “The night Huntington died” has been credited as the worst disaster in US sports history, per Wikipedia, and it’s hard to disagree with that assessment. If you get a chance, read up on this terrible event, give a thought or prayer (as befits you) for the souls on board that plane and their extended families whose lives were torn apart that night, and tell your family you love them, even if they’re trying to get you to watch Christmas movies on Freeform instead of the late games.
Roll-on Thundering Herd. Here’s to you and the legacy of those lost.
