What is the most chaotic playoff scenario that is somewhat realistic? Here’s mine:
Auburn wins out, beating #13 Texas A&M, #3 Alabama and #1 Georgia to be SEC champs at 11-2. Georgia is 12-1 as SEC runner up.
Minnesota wins out, beating the good guys in the B1G championship game to be 11-2 B1G champs (with a loss to BGSU). MSU finishes as 11-1 B1G runner up.
Wake Forest finishes as 13-0 ACC champs
Oklahoma finishes as 13-0 Big 12 champs
Cincinnati finishes as 13-0 AAC champs
Oregon finishes as 13-1 PAC-12 champs.
I think in this scenario the final rankings would be
1. Oklahoma
2. Cincinnati
3. Auburn
4. Oregon
5. Georgia
Ultimately, the SEC has a pretty weak resume overall if you are trying to make the argument they deserve two teams in the playoff. The conferences best OOC win would be Georgia’s win over Clemson or Arkansas’ win over Texas, and neither of those wins were impressive. If Auburn wins the conference, that means the conferences best team lost to a decent Penn State team. I could see the committee considering this and not putting in 2 SEC teams.
Wake Forest is not even in the conversation. The ACC is awful and Cincinnati has by far a better resume than them. I would put the top 5 teams in the B1G in the playoff over them.
