Read an article in The Comeback from our old friend at 11W, Kevin Harrish, that talked about the possibility of Penn State scheduling SEC teams for OOC games in the future.
Franklin was blunt when asked by Sports Illustrated if he would schedule more high-profile games like Auburn, Franklin replied "No. (pause) No." The reason? Penn State wants easy games that won't cost it a chance at a conference/national title.
From the article: Franklin revealed that the program has no interest in scheduling difficult games against premier opponents going forward. Instead, Penn State plans to schedule its non-conference games against easier opponents that the Nittany Lions can beat easily and then focus its energy on winning the Big Ten conference title.
“There’s a reason that this is like one of the only games that’s been scheduled in the history of the Big Ten,” Franklin said. “All the data and all the analytics show you you’ve got to do whatever you can to win your conference.”
Really, James?! One of the only games that been scheduled in the history of the B1G?! Just this year alone, OSU plays ND, Nebraska continues it's rivalry with Oklahoma, and MSU played Washington. In the past, OSU has played USC, Texas, Oregon, etc., so "in the history" must refer only to Penn State's recent history?!
So, while OSU is scheduling better OOC teams like NotreDame, Washington, Alabama, etc., Penn State is choosing to take the easy road.
This is exactly why they aren't our rivals. Do better, Penn State!
