ROLE OF THE OUTSIDE FIRM?

I posted this comment on another thread but thought it might be a good topic on its own:

Here is a plausible explanation about the role of this outside firm which obtained the video and other evidence and provided it to the NCAA. The firm was hired by Michigan as part of an internal investigation. This would explain the apparently complete access to Michigan electronic devices and communications. It seems unlikely that a hacker would be able to get such widespread access to so many devices. It also seems unlikely that an outside firm (presumably not a press organization) would utilize illegally obtained information/work with the illegal obtainer as such illegal access violates federal and/or state laws. If all this information was from Michigan devices, Michigan would be able to grant permission and access to all those devices.

It may also be that the results of the internal investigation were shared with Harbaugh (which presumably cleared him of any foreknowledge or involvement), which would explain why Harbaugh would make a definitive public statement about no knowledge or participation in this activity so early on in the public portion of this.

If this is the case, the next question is did Stalions provide his analysis to UM personnel while lying about how he did his analysis (e.g. "I analyzed publicly available game films" - I read somewhere that Stalions apparently posted something like this in the past), or were they complicit? If Stalions lied, this may explain why only he has been suspended.

If there was complicity, at what level did the knowledge or participation of potential illegal activity rise to?

We shall see.

[Mod edit: “thought it might be a good topic on its own.” Nope.]
