While I enjoy the transfer portal insanity as much as the next college football junkie. The date needs to be changed. 

The transfer portal should not officially open until the end of the season, players can state their intentions of wanting to enter the portal but the transfer portal should not open until after the title game. It should be just like free agency, where you have say a month after the portal is open to find a new school (which means Jan 21st -February 20th. They also need to get rid of the spring transfer portal window

The recruiting calendar should also change. The early signing period should be in June (before fall practice begins), and the second signing period should be the week after CCG are over. 

I think doing these couple things would not only help the coaches with the rosters but not having portal recruiting and HS recruiting during the season would help coaches and prevent burnout.
