Given the excellence demanded and expected at OSU even in many of the non-revenue sports, when does Smith make a move on Beals like he did with Matta.
Beals tenure has been a bust. He took over the program in 2011 from the great Bob Todd. Todd had won 66% of his games, had won 7 conference titles in the previous 20 years and 8 conference tourney's in that time. Going to the NCAA tourney 13 times in those 20 years and went 21-26 there.
He won 5 straight B1G titles from 1991-95, twice won over 50 games in a year, was the B1G COY 4 times and National COY in 1994 and produced 5 AA's.
So given that template, Beals comes in and has won only 58% of his games, but even worse has been to only 1 ncaa tourney in his 7 years (going 1-2 and being bumped out with a loss to Wright State) has not won a regular season conference title and only 1 conference tourney.
This past season his team went 22-34, including 9-17 at home and 8-16 in the B1G. This is now his 2nd sub .500 team including his first one.
Todd NEVER had a losing season, never won fewer than 30 games EVER.
Beals overall B1G record now sits at 85-83 in his 7 years. He has been sub .500 in conference in 3 of his 7 years. Todd's was sub .500 only once in his entire 23 years career at OSI and won nearly 64% of his conference games.
It is time for a change in baseball. Beals must go!!
