LAS VEGAS – Buckeye senior forward Carson Meyer’s goal 1:17 into overtime lifted the No. 6/7 Ohio State men’s hockey team to a 2-1 victory over No. 20 Army West Point in the consolation game of the Fortress Invitational Saturday in T-Mobile Arena. The Buckeyes trailed 1-0 after the first period, but Tanner Laczynski scored shorthanded to tie the game in the second and Meyer clinched the win in OT.
The Buckeyes improve to 13-5-2 on the year, with a 7-1-1 record in their last nine games. Army West Point is 13-7-1 this season. The game was the third of a tripleheader of hockey in the arena Saturday, with an NHL game (that went to overtime), the championship game of the Fortress Invitational (a 2-2 OT tie between No. 2 Cornell and No. 14 Providence, with the Friars scoring in a shootout for the trophy) and the consolation game. Puck drop for the Buckeyes and Black Knights game was at 9:25 p.m. PST.
