*This is a post largely about our Athletic Director so I am leaving this under Ohio State Athletics. MODS, please move if needed.*

I am grateful to have been invited to see not only our Athletic Director, Gene Smith, but also our Provost, Dr. Melissa Gilliam, MD, and Senior Vice President of the Office of Student Life, Dr. Melissa Shivers, PhD, be honored and awarded at the King Arts Complex Legends and Legacies Award Ceremony at the Lincoln Theatre.

Ryan Day and Chris Holtmann were in attendance, along with several other prominent leaders and congressmembers around the Columbus and Ohio area.

It was a stage forum setting with those three outstanding individuals and OSU's President, Dr. Kristina Johnson, leading the way with questions. While we spent a great amount of time learning about their upbringing and how their education, life choices, and career path led them to their respective positions, I learned so much from them as leaders that I can apply to my own personal and work life as I continue to grow in my career. It was truly fascinating watching all three of them speak.

I just wanted to come here and say that we are spoiled beyond belief to have Gene Smith. Having been in many spaces with him, he provides that level of power and respect where he commands the attention of the room when he walks in the door. He does not just dominate conversation in Big Ten decision making, but he might be the most nationally recognized and respected Athletic Director. We truly have the Best Damn Athletic Director In The Land.

There were many comments from guest speakers wondering how the hell Gene Smith is still kickin' after all these years. During a congratulatory video made toward Gene Smith, Ryan Day had a part where he practically begged Gene to at least "stay 10 more years with him" and the audience laughed and applauded. I am not saying that is confirmation Ryan Day is sticking around for the long haul, but I can honestly say he is truly happy to be here and I don't believe he is leaving anytime soon.

Let's enjoy the ride while we can and cheers to many more seasons with these two guys at helm!
