Well what started off as an exciting week ended in disappointment as Ohio State fell back down to .500

Ohio State started off the week with a road game in Oxford against the Redhawks of Miami (OH). It was a back and forth affair all game long as Miami took a 7-3 lead after a 6-run B3, to which Ohio State responded with 6 runs of their own in the T4, taking a lead they would never relinquish. Kade Kern, Matthew Graveline, Marcus Ernst, and Josh McAlister led the Buckeyes with 2 runs each; and Ernst and Trey Lipsey led the way with 3 RBIs each. For giving up 11 runs, the pitching was really good as the Buckeye pitchers combined to strike out 16 Redhawk batters. Reliever Jake Johnson was given the win, his first decision of the season, and closer Landon Beidelschies was given the save - his fifth of the season - as he went 3 up 3 down against the batters in the B9 to give the Buckeyes the 12-11 win

Wednesday, the Buckeyes completed a 3 game series against Dayton, postponed from March 18, and this went very similarly to the Miami game. Ohio State started off with a 2-run B1, but Dayton would score 6 runs in a row and 7 of the next 9 runs to take a 7-4 lead after the T8. But with 2 outs in the B8, Ohio State used a combinations of walks and a 2 RBI single by Ernst, Ohio State regained the lead for good as closer Jonah Jenkins also went 1-2-3 in the T9, giving him his second save of the season, and the Buckeyes the 8-7 win and the season sweep over Dayton. Kern was the high personal scorer with 3 runs, and Ernst was the high team scorer with 2 RBIs. Pitching was again solid despite the numerous runs allowed, as they struck out 13 Flyer batters. Penultimate pitcher Nolan Clegg was given the win, also his first decision of the year.

Despite getting the midweek wins, the Buckeyes would leave 12 on base both games, continuing the theme, and although it didn't end up costing them these wins, the weekend series against Penn State would be a different story.

Game 1 on Friday was frustrating from the get-go. The Buckeyes went down 1-2-3 in the T1, then gave up a grand slam in the B1, giving Penn State a lead they would never relinquish as they pulled away for a 10-3 win. Mitchell Okuley led the team with 2 runs, and Kern led the way with 2 RBIs. Starting pitcher Gavin Bruni was given the loss, bringing him to 2-2 on the season.

Game 2 on Saturday didn't go any better as Ohio State didn't get a man on base until the 11th batter of the game. The Buckeyes got their first run of the game in the T5 by Nick Erwin, and tied it up in the T6 thanks to Matthew Graveline, but a combination of leaving the bases loaded twice - part a total of 8 runners left on base - and a 5 run B7 by Penn State allowed the Nittany Lions to win the game 7-2. Clegg was given the loss, bringing him to 1-1 on the year.

Game 3 on Sunday started out better than the previous two as Ohio State got the first 3 runs, but ended much worse, as Penn State scored the final 15 thanks to a 10-run B4. Ohio State left 2 or more runners on base in 6 of the 9 innings, including a bases loaded situation in the T7 as part of a season high total of 15 runners left on base. Pitching and defense, obviously, was horrendous, as Jenkins was given the loss, bringing him to 4-3.

After the 2-3 week, Ohio State fell to 20-20. Miami (OH) moved to 13-29, Dayton moved to 14-26, and Penn State improved to 23-13.

Up next, the Buckeyes travel to Kent State for a grudge match, before hosting Illinois for a weekend series
