Ohio State golfer Maxwell Moldovan will play the weekend at the U.S. Open.
Moldovan made the cut on the number by shooting 71 in each of the first two rounds at Los Angeles Country Club, putting him at +2 through 36 holes. It’s the Ohio State junior’s first time making the cut at a major tournament, as he missed the cut in his first U.S. Open last year.
He’s one of four amateurs who made the cut along with Vanderbilt’s Gordon Sargent, Georgia Southern’s Ben Carr and South African golfer Aldrich Potgeiter.
Headed to the weekend!!

Max is one of just four amateurs to make the cut. First of hopefully many weekends at a major for this guy! #GoBucks @usopengolf pic.twitter.com/Dah50WO2OA
Making the cut at the U.S. Open is just the latest accomplishment for Moldovan, who broke his own Ohio State single-season scoring record with an average of 70.64 strokes per round and finished in the top 10 in 10 of 13 events played, including one win and seven top-fives, for the Buckeyes this past season.
Ohio State’s other representative at the U.S. Open, former Buckeye golfer Ryan Armour, missed the cut after finishing the first two rounds with a +7 score.
