COLUMBUS, Ohio – After going 2-0 with wins over No. 1 UCLA and No. 13 USC over the weekend, Ohio State (6-0) moved to the No. 1 spot in the weekly American Volleyball Coaches Association Poll Monday.
The Buckeyes were last in the No. 1 spot Jan. 13, 2018 after opening the season in the top spot of the AVCA Poll. Ohio State ended the 2017 season No. 1 and as National Champions after a win in Columbus (3-0) over BYU May 6 of that year.
The Buckeyes, No. 4 last week prior to the wins over the Bruins and Trojans at the First Point Collegiate Challenge in Austin, Texas, received 12 first-place votes and a total of 444 points in the poll this week. UCLA, the defending national champion, is No. 2.
No. 9 Penn State (4-2) travels to Columbus this week to put Ohio State's No. 1 ranking to the test. Match time is set for 6 p.m. Thursday at the Covelli Center.
