Former Ohio State player and assistant coach Chris Jent is joining the Los Angeles Lakers as an assistant coach, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Saturday.
The Lakers are hiring Atlanta Hawks assistant Chris Jent to become the top assistant coach, sources tell ESPN. New coach Darvin Ham recruited Jent over the past week to lead his staff. Jent has a strong history with LeBron James from early Cleveland years.

Jent, who played for the Buckeyes from 1988-92, was an assistant coach for the Atlanta Hawks for the past five years. Before that, Jent was an assistant coach at Ohio State for Thad Matta’s final season with the Buckeyes; Jent was also one of Matta’s assistants from 2011-13.
By joining the Lakers, Jent reunites with LeBron James, who he previously coached when he was a Cleveland Cavaliers assistant from 2006-11.
