First, giving credit where it is absolutely due, there is no denying the incredible run Nick Saban has had at Alabama.
Having said that, if Ohio State can pull off the upset, it really can change the overall picture of the college football landscape.
For one thing, it would mean Ohio State would be tied with Alabama and Clemson as the leader in national championships during the CFP era.
Second, it would mean Saban and Alabama would be winless against Ohio State in the CFP era—and both times when they were ranked number one.
What it could mean, in essence: the argument about the SEC’s supposed superiority would be down the drain. Its most dominant team would have gone 0-2 against the B1G’s most dominant team.
And, as for it being the era of Nick Saban, one could counter with, to borrow from the Jefferson Airplane, “It’s the new dawn;” we have entered the era of Ryan Day.
I fully understand why Bama is favored and a lot will depend on Justin Fields being close to 100%. But I am cautiously optimistic about the ability of the both the O line and D line to perform against Bama and, if they do, it’s game on and hopefully Ryan Day can win his first of hopefully multiple national titles.
