To put it simply, the entire future of this program, including Ryan Day, rides on getting several day 1 starters on the offensive line. We have seen for too long what a poor o line can do, even with the best offensive weapons and defense in the country. This thread is for tracking and discussing potential portal Olinemen. I’ll start with Xavior Gray. Ohio kid who transferred from Akron to Liberty, and is now back in the portal. 6’9 340 some pounds but generally slow feet. Decent player, would be amazing for depth, but not sure he could start here.
Update: Gray probably isn’t quick enough to be a starter here, but if he wants to come in and compete we should take him.
Taran Tyo. Redshirt Sophomore from Ohio. Played at Ball State. Has very legit quickness and pass pro technique. If he wants in, he must be in. Would compete at RG or RT. I prefer him at tackle. Downside is he has only faced Mac opponents, but he has 3 years of eligibility left. A must contact, IMO.
Terrence Moore. Junior at Pitt, from Ohio. Played center this year but I’m not sure about him. Stalemates most of his blocks at best and doesn’t seem to make a huge impact, but also doesn’t seem to mess up often. Lacks crazy upside but again, we need depth. If he wants to come and compete, we should take him.
Josh Thompson. Northwestern, graduate or senior I believe (doesn’t matter, will be in the NFL next year) STUD at guard. Absolute beast. Don’t believe me? What our game vs northwestern. #56. Our DLine is elite and he did not get beat much. Amazing body control/balance for his size. Love him at guard, but also could play RT. Absolute must contact (I believe we have) but he’s a Jonah Jackson type. Unfortunately he will probably end up at Michigan seeing as he is from a city near AA, but we should send the house regardless.
