Caleb Downs had an excellent response today when asked about Ohio State's offensive struggles.

"We were struggling early in the year and the offense picked us up. It's time for us to return the favor.

We have been a different defense since the Oregon game."

Since the Oregon game:

  • Gave up six points and zero touchdowns to Penn State (Will Howard pick six).
  • Shutout Purdue.
  • Gave up seven points to Northwestern.
  • Gave up seven points to Indiana before garbage time.
  • Basically gave up six points to Michigan (Will Howard almost pick six).

Not to mention, one of Michigan's "scoring" drives started at the OSU 39. They gained zero yards and kicked a long FG.

This defense is filled with difference makers.

Caleb Downs is the best player in CFB. He plays the biggest in the biggest games. Fourth down PBU vs Penn State after blanketing All-American Tyler Warren the entire game. Punt return TD vs Indiana. Game breaking (should have been) INT vs Michigan.

Downs is going to make a huge play on Saturday. It’s in his blood.

Lathan Ransom and Cody Simon have been playing out of their minds this season. Tyleik Williams, JT Tuimoloau, and Jack Sawyer have been playing like top 50 picks.

Todd McShay last week after watching the tape:

“Every single starter on this OSU defense is going to be drafted this year. Except Caleb Downs, who will be a top ten pick in 2026. More than half of the starters will be top 100 picks.

This defense is absolutely loaded.”

Our defense gives us a chance in every single game. They will be the backbone of this playoff run.

As Downs said, it's time for the defense to carry the offense.

Go Bucks!
