The American Alliance of Football opens its inaugural season tonight @ 8 pm EST on CBS. The teams playing are the San Diego Fleet at the San Antonio Commanders. I don't know if this latest non-NFL league will fill the anticipated niche for American football junkies out there, but what intrigued me was looking for Buckeyes on the eight-team rosters. Here's a listing of former Ohio State players:
Atlanta Legends- Chase Farris, Tracy Sprinkle, Doran Grant. Birmingham Iron- None. Memphis Express- None. Orlando Apollos- Jalin Marshall. Arizona Hotshots- None. Salt Lake Stallions- None. San Antonio Commanders- None. San Diego Fleet- Marcus Baugh.
What I've noted so far: first and most obvious is that this a sunny-climate kind of league. Logical, since this is the winter, after all; that most of the teams seem to have recruited regional talent to make the home connection more appealing, and that a few of the teams have puzzling names.
Anyway, I'll tune in to tonight's opening game for the heck of it. It'll be interesting to see how the AAF pans out. For more information on the AAF:
