The Cleveland Browns currently sit all alone in second in the AFC North at 9-3, trailing the 11-1 Pittsburgh Steelers. Here are the remaining opponents for each -

Cleveland Browns
- 12/14 vs. Baltimore Ravens (Monday Night Football)
- 12/20 @ New York Giants
- 12/27 @ New York Jets
- 1/3 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Pittsburgh Steelers
- 12/13 @ Buffalo Bills (Sunday Night Football)
- 12/21 @ Cincinnati Bengals (Monday Night Football)
- 12/27 vs. Indianapolis Colts
- 1/3 @ Cleveland Browns

For the sake of argument let's assume the Cleveland Browns win out and the Pittsburgh Steelers split with the Bills/Colts and beat the Cincinnati Bengals. That would lead to a potential AFC North championship game on 1/3. That would put the 13-2 Pittsburgh Steelers @ 12-3 Cleveland Browns.

If the Browns were to pull off the win and both teams ended at 13-3, here are the division tiebreakers

1. Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs).
2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.
3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.
4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
5. Strength of victory.
6. Strength of schedule.
7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
9. Best net points in common games.
10. Best net points in all games.
11. Best net touchdowns in all games.
12. Coin toss

Examining each of the tiebreakers to find out who would own the tiebreaker lets start from the top and work our way down.

1. Both teams would be 1-1 head to head.
2. The Cleveland Browns would be 4-2 in the division vs. the Steelers being 5-1 in the division.

Long story short, for the Browns to have a chance at the AFC North all of our hopes ride on the Browns winning out and the Cincinnati Bengals pulling the upset on 12/21. Unless of course the Steelers continue to regress to the point where they lose to BOTH the Colts & Bills.

Go Browns! Beat the Ravens!
