Most of the discussion has been around what the Bengals should do at #5 but I think at this point it is pretty safe to say they are going with Jamarr Chase. The Eagles leaked it would happen, the rumors of Burrow asking for Chase was confirmed by Duke Tobin, Tobin also said the OL draft is very deep and they think they can get a starter in the third round, they didnt address WR at all in free agency, the RT spot was solidified with Riley Reiff, even Vegas odds are shifting with Penei Sewell more likely to drop. With all that being said I wanted to focus more on likely second and third round options.

Something to watch this year is there will be A LOT of variance in teams/media boards later in the draft. Between the loss of games, no combine, unreliable pro days, and not being able to see players as much in person it is just really hard to predict where everybody else will be going.

Draft Simulator-

  • 1-Jamarr Chase WR LSU-Last year AJ Green, Tyler Boyd, and Tee Higgins all had about 100 targets. Green was pretty terrible last year and those targets now go to the best receiver prospect in a few years. The biggest benefit is Boyd and Higgins can continue to see single coverage from the 2nd/3rd corners. The receiver talent would be easily top 5 in the league and a solid chance at being #1. All of them have atleast 3 years remaining on their contracts. The 3 years may be the window with Burrow also locked up that long.
  • 2-Offensive Lineman-The choice here is Liam Eichenberg, Alex Leatherwood, Landon Dickerson, and Wyatt Davis. Eichenberg and Leatherwood are capable of playing RT and would play their rookie season at RG before kicking out in year 2. Eichenberg is better today but is less athletic and has much shorter arms. But he is a classic Notre Dame guy where he is big, multi year starter, team captain, and will be a grinder, Eichenberg may never be a star but guys like him rarely bust. Leatherwood is in a way the opposite, he wasnt as good in college but his size, athleticism, and arm length is easily the best total package in the draft. Leatherwood could end up being the best guard in the draft if tackle doesnt workout. However Leatherwood has never shown a "nasty" streak and despite the crazy athleticism hasnt been dominant. He has the tools to be the best lineman in the NFL, but you are taking a gamble on a guy who has just been good. Dickerson and Davis are the top IOL prospects and would just stick at guard. Davis is a bit better athletically while Dickerson is a better player today(aside from injury.)
I will take Eichenberg but I would be happy with any of these 4 or somebody who drops.
  • 3-Milton Williams DL LA Tech-Stealing this one from Joe Goodberry but he has him with a first round grade. He projects Williams as a very good 3T. He had very good production but is also an elite athlete. Looks a lot like Geno Atkins on film but actually has the same athletic profile as him. DL is very dependent on athleticism and Williams has everything you could want from a prospect.
  • 4-Dylan Moses LB Bama-The LB unit is one piece away and Moses fits it perfectly. He would be the best pass rusher of the group and because of his size/athleticism combo he can be on the field for everything. He can be the "cover" linebacker in a run set or the "big" linebacker in a pass set. Logan Wilson, ADG, and Germaine Pratt all have pretty distinct roles and Moses would be the final piece to shore up any gaps. He is very athletic but didnt quite put it together at Bama after dealing with constant injuries. Hoping he has the development time to turn into a really good player in a couple years.
  • 5-Trey Hill IOL UGA-Very big and surprisingly athletic IOL. Not sure he will be here in the 5th round as he has had some day 2 hype but would be a solid pickup. Can be a back up to the 2nd round lineman then takeover as a starting guard in year 2 if he pans out.
  • 6-Ihmir Smith-Marcet WR Iowa-Very common name to associate with the Bengals, they have talked to him a lot. He fits exactly what they need. The 3 starters are set, they have Auden Tate as a big receiver backup but they dont have anybody else who adds speed. He is a really fast guy but somewhat small at 6'0" 190. He can come onto the field to add athleticism, be the 4th receiver in the slot, and also would be a special teams guy that no other receiver really is.
