Maybe it’s an ESPN thing? Maybe it’s a larger trend - one I hope doesn’t last - but whether it’s been Bill Walton forgetting there is a basketball game going on, Dick Vitale going on a tangent on half the screen from his home office while a game occurs on the other half, or tonight watching MLB with ESPN interviewing Ken Burns during one inning of play and Jim Brown during the next, it seems sports networks have decided viewers are better off listening to random drivel than a call of the game. Where did this trend come from and why are networks thinking it is desired by fans?
