I was involved in a conversation in the Premium Lounge that I thought was something that ought to be brought to everyone.
My youngest son is a senior in HS. He plays on a rec league basketball team. His most recent scheduled game had to be rescheduled due to a lack of officials available. This is an ongoing issue that is now rapidly becoming critical. The NFHS has predicted that by 2025, it will be routine to have to cancel VARSITY sports matches due to a lack of officials. This is across all sports although I am most familiar with basketball as that was the sport I officiated until health/injury issues forced me to retire. I have to tell you that I still miss it terribly.
I want to urge everyone to think about whether giving back to the sport(s) you loved would be a possibility by taking a class and earning your OHSAA card. All sports are in desperate need, some more than others. If this is something you might be interested in, go to the OHSAA website for information. If you love sports, its a way to give back. You won't get rich, but you'll make lifelong friends and develop yourself.
Thank you for your kind attention.
