Grand depart in Florence, Italy kicks off the 2024 Tour de France with plenty of story lines, question marks and opportunities for unknowns to become legends. All 4 of the main contenders come to the start having less than perfect lead ups. Pogacar recovering from COVID after a dominant Giro. Vingegaard, suffered broken bones and a punctured lung in the Tour of the Basque Country. Roglic and Evenepoel also caught and busted up in the Basque Country crash have had their training programs compromised.

The Tour starts with early climbs culminating in the Alps before heading north.  A finish in Nice (due to the Olympics) after brutal days in the Pyrenees, and a second trip through the Alps cap off the 111th Tour with so much to unfold over the next 21 days.  Does Cavendish surpass Merx?  Do the cobbles take their toll?  Who from peloton will rise to legendary status?
