Though last week was open week for the football Buckeyes, other Ohio State sports were in action.
Ohio State Baseball Holds Annual Scarlet & Gray World Series
After finishing 2017 with a disappointing 22-34 record, the Ohio State baseball team concluded their annual fall practice proceedings with the Scarlet & Gray World Series.
Splitting the teams up for a series of inter-squad matchups, it was the Scarlet team that came out on top, winning the series 4-1.
Over the duration of the five games, the Buckeyes had some impressive stat lines at the dish and on the bump.
Junior college transfer Kobie Foppe lead the Buckeyes at the plate. Over the five games, The infielder hit .471 with a double and a triple, compiling a 1.118 OPS.
Senior outfielder Tyler Cowles was right behind, as the slugger collected two home runs, five runs batted in and an OPS of 1.196. Junior third baseman Brady Cherry also launched three home runs over the duration of the series.
On the mound, junior left-hander Connor Curlis went 2-0 with an ERA of just over 3.00 while freshman Seth Lonsway from Celina, OH went 1-0 in two appearances (one start) for a 1-0 record with an ERA of 1.50.

Grimmer Leads Buckeyes to Runner-up Finish in Dayton
Competing in the Dayton Intercollegiate last week, the Ohio State men's golf team shot to a runner-up finish as every scoring member finished within the top 15 of the competition.
Junior Will Grimmer paced the Buckeyes, finishing third with an overall score of 213 at even par. Jeg Coughlin III followed thereafter, finishing with his best finish as a Buckeye, going 76-75-68 to finish tied for ninth. It was the sophomore's first top-10 finish as a Buckeye.
The rest of the scoring members finished tied for 14th in some kind of fashion.
Kevin Stone — competing in his first collegiate event for the Buckeyes — was one of the three to finish T14. Stone had rounds of 72-75-73 to his finish.
Finishing out, sophomore Caden Orewiler and junior Daniel Wetterich rounded up the 14th-placers. Orewiler went 71-75-74 on his way while Wetterich had a topsy-turvy tournament, shooting 77 to start before firing a 68 and rounding up with a 75.
Men's Soccer Drops Two More
It has literally been a streaky season for the Ohio State men's soccer team — there's no other way to describe it. Their losing streak continued this week, as they lost to both Syracuse (2-1) and Michigan (2-0)
The Syracuse match was a back-and-forth contest, with the shots being 14-9 in favor of Syracuse.
Syracuse scored first in the 25th minute, but Ohio State answered back less than a minute later when Nate Kohl scored off a rebound with his left foot into the far right corner of the net. At 25:38, there had been two goals within the past 37 seconds. It would remain tied going into halftime.
As the teams got going in the second half, Syracuse got a chance and capitalized, scoring at 49:32, as Syracuse's Lukas Rubio got his first goal of the season.
The Buckeyes would get more shots on goal during the remaining time, though nothing came to fruition and it marked their fifth loss in a row.
The Losing Streak Continues against Rival Michigan
Perhaps the hardest part at this point in the losing streak came Saturday night against the Wolverines. Ending the streak would have been a sigh of relief, doing it against Michigan could have helped turn the thing the other way. Alas, Michigan played a solid, sound match on their way to a 2-0 in Columbus Saturday night.
The Wolverines got the advantage early, when Jack Hallahan scored on a bomb from 30 yards out past Ohio State keeper Xavier Kennedy in the 11th minute.
After getting the early lead, the Wolverines weren't done before halftime. Hallahan assisted on this goal — firing a cross to which Mohammed Zakyi slid and buried the shot from five yards out in the 34th minute.
Of note, Ohio State's six shots did not register any on goal.
They'll try and break this six-game losing streak October 25 at Kentucky.
