Ohio State excellence is not exclusive to the football field or the basketball court. Around the Oval is our way of keeping you updated on what's happening with some of the other sports on campus.

A Couple of Nattys

While most Buckeye fans were likely watching March Madness, Ohio State was busy claiming a couple of national titles in different sports as the pistol team won its second consecutive overall national title while the women's hockey team won its first national title in program history.

The pistol team was crowned the 2022 national champions after capturing the team air pistol championship, the team sport pistol championship, and the team standard pistol championship. It was their second-straight overall national championship after similarly dominating last season.

Meanwhile, the Ohio State women’s hockey team won the Buckeyes’ first-ever NCAA title on the ice on Sunday by defeating Minnesota Duluth 3-2.

Big Ten Champs

Ohio State's men's gymnastics team claimed some hardware this weekend, as well.

The No. 6-ranked Buckeyes defeated No. 4 Nebraska 407.350-406.650 on senior day on Sunday afternoon, claiming a share of the Big Ten regular-season title for the first time since the conference began awarding a regular-season title in 2019.

Ohio State was led by Jesse Tyndall, who won three events – floor (14.250), parallel bars (14.350) and high bar (13.900). His high bar routine clinched the meet win for the Buckeyes and conference championship.

As a team, the Buckeyes had season-best scores on pommel horse, rings, and high bar.

Next up, Ohio State heads to State College for the 2022 Big Ten Championships on April 1-2.

Still Dancing

The Ohio State men's basketball team got knocked out of the NCAA Tournament in the round of 32, but the Buckeye women's team has a chance to avoid the same fate on Monday night as No. 6 seed Ohio State faces off against No. 3 seed LSU.

The game tips off at 8 p.m. and will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2.
