Evan Mahaffey is searching for a third destination to finish his college career.

The rising senior wing and former Penn State Nittany Lion has entered the transfer portal for the second time in his career after two seasons playing varying roles for Ohio State.

Mahaffey moved from State College to Columbus ahead of the 2023-24 season, when he assumed the starting small forward position for the Buckeyes. Playing 22.1 minutes per game, he picked up 4.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists, one steal and 0.7 blocks a contest.

As Micah Parrish came in from San Diego State and starred at small forward in a three-guard lineup for Ohio State in 2024-25, Mahaffey stepped back into a role off the bench and played just 18 minutes per game. He averaged 3.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.9 blocks and 0.7 steals in that time.

Mahaffey joins junior center Austin Parks as the second Ohio State player to leave via the transfer portal in 2025.

With Mahaffey gone and Parrish out of eligibility, the Buckeyes' next options on the wing for 2025-26 are junior Devin Royal, who emerged as a star at power forward this past season and sophomore Colin White, a three-star prospect who averaged 1.1 points and 7.9 minutes per game as a freshman. Wing help will be a top priority in the transfer portal for the Buckeyes.
