Daylon Mack, the nation's third-ranked defensive tackle in the 2015 class has been offered by the Buckeyes today. Committed to the Aggies and Kevin Sumlin since October of last year, Mack — a Gladewater, Texas native — says the Buckeye offer is a special one.
"(Ohio State) is big-time," Mack told Eleven Warriors. "They've been recruiting me since around the time of their bowl game."
While Ohio State's Tom Herman, dubbed "Texas Tom" for his prodigious efforts in Texas the last two years, is the normal recruiter for the Lone State State, Mack's lead recruiter appears to be Larry Johnson, Sr.
"I've talked to Coach Johnson for the last two weeks and he offered me," he said of the Buckeye coach recruiting him. "I like him. He seems like a really great guy and he's got a great track record. He thinks I am a great fit for their system."
Now that he's got a Buckeye offer, the question is whether or not the 6-foot-2, 310-pound defensive tackle gets a chance to visit Ohio State, it's a place that he says he'd not mind getting a chance to check out. He visited Auburn this past weekend, so he's still exploring his options, at least minimally.
"The Ohio State offer means a lot to me," Mack said. "They are a top program and I'd love to get there for a visit with Coach Meyer and the rest of the Buckeye staff, hopefully I can get there sometime in the spring."
