It doesn't take a mentalist to figure out Corey Linsley, former Ohio State center, has had a great 2014. In May, Linsley was taken by the Green Bay Packers, his childhood team, in the fifth round of the NFL draft. In August, a story broke about Linsley taking a child to buy a new bike after he let Linsley ride his old bike to camp. A few weeks after that, Linsley was thrust into the starting role due to injury to Packers' standby JC Tretter. Linebacker Bruce Irvin, whose Seattle Seahawks faced the Packers in the season opener, said he would "pray" for Corey.
Well, I hope Bruce Irvin used that prayer for somebody else, because Corey Linsley doesn't need prayers to perform well on the gridiron. All the former Buckeye has done is play at a Pro Bowl level (those aren't my words, that quote belongs to Packers QB Aaron Rodgers):
But Corey Linsley being a good guy or pinwheeling dudes to the brink of unconsciousness on the football field is nothing new to those who have followed Linsley's reformation since he was on the precipice of quitting football before Urban Meyer (and Ed Warinner) took over Ohio State's reins.
What is (somewhat) surprising, however, is that Corey Linsley is also a fan of Nickelodeon' smash-hit cartoon, SpongeBob Square Pants.
Yes, it's true, Linsley said, in a recent interview with Wisconsin's WTMJ:
"I love Spongebob. I loved it as a kid," said Linsley. "I think that Spongebob, it has jokes for the adults."
Linsley's personality is infectious...he's a kid trapped in a 6'3", 300 pound frame, always smiling, or laughing and occasionally plotting.
"I was a prankster back in high school. We all kind of were. We all pranked on each other. People got locked in lockers. We used to put zip-ties on everybody's locker that you couldn't jam open. That was hysterical. I loved that."
I hope Linsley's SpongeBob media library is up to date, because it's a long, long flight to Hawaii.
