Kerry Coombs is a fiery competitor, a dynamite recruiter and responsible for shelling out talent from Ohio State and into the NFL on a yearly basis.

A Cincinnati native, he also is well known in the Queen City for his work with area high schools like Colerain, Loveland, Lakota and Greenhills. He even coached the Bearcats at the University of Cincinnati before coming to Ohio State with Urban Meyer prior to the 2012 season. When Ohio State's 2016 slate kicks off, it will be Coombs' 35th overall season on the sidelines.

Friday, Coombs is set to be recognized with one of the highest athletic honors Hamilton County can bestow. He, along with Dr. Beth Osterday-Strange, form the two-person contingent in the 2016 Hamilton County Hall of Fame class.

Here is Coombs' reaction, via WCPO.com:

“I am very grateful,” Coombs said this week. “I am flattered. It’s a cool thing.”

“The sports tradition in Hamilton County is phenomenal,” said Coombs, who is the cornerbacks coach/special teams coordinator with the Buckeyes. “To be a part of that is really gratifying.”

Coombs is set to be honored Friday night at 7 p.m. at the St. Patrick’s Knights of Columbus in Carthage, Ohio.

Meyer shared his gratitude and appreciation for Coombs' work with WCPO.com:

"I am pleased for Kerry, his wife Holly, and the Coombs family that he is going to be inducted into the Hamilton County Hall of Fame," Meyer said. "This recognition could not go to a more deserving individual. Kerry's ties to the area and his energy and enthusiasm as a father, coach and mentor is second to none. He loves Cincinnati so this will truly be a meaningful honor for him."

Coombs does love Cincinnati, so it is clear what this honor means to him.
