Ohio State travels to Oklahoma for its first road game of the season on Saturday. The No. 3 Buckeyes and No. 14 Sooners are set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. from Gaylord Family — Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

With the rest of the nation set to learn how Urban Meyer's team stacks up with a top-15 opponent, the head coach met with reporters briefly after practice on Wednesday at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.

NOTES:

  • Ohio State is "similar" to what Houston does offensively, but added the Buckeyes are also like Clemson on that side of the ball. Meyer mentioned Houston's big plays as to how it beat Oklahoma two weeks ago.
  • Meyer downgraded Dante Booker to questionable: "He didn't do much today."
  • QB Baker Mayfield "has a lot of responsibility" within Oklahoma's offense. The quarterback has plenty of things on his shoulders, much like how Ohio State does with J.T. Barrett.
  • "You don't tell a great player not to play." Meyer when asked how much Mayfield runs around and even backward before trying to make a play down the field.
  • All Ohio State uses on offense from the sideline to the quarterback is hand signals, in addition from quarterback to wide receiver.
  • Meyer thinks he has more than three or four top receivers that the offense can count on. Could that continue into this season? "I hope."
  • On Mike Weber, Meyer said he was "alarmed" with the running back's ball security during spring practice. That's not that case anymore: "He's doing much better with that."
  • "I don't get too much into schedules, I let my boss do that." Meyer said he thinks the home-and-home matchups with big time programs like Oklahoma is great for college football.
  • "I like him because he's Ohio. Northeastern Ohio, to be specific." — Meyer on Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops.
  • On the Bleacher Report article on his mental health, Meyer said, "I normally don't do interviews like that." The reporter who wrote it grabbed him at Big Ten Media Days and initially Meyer was apprehensive until the reporter said, "I think we can help people."
  • Meyer said Ohio State's effort Tuesday and Wednesday in practice "outstanding." But, he added "I'm glad we have two more days to get better. This is going to be one of those prize fights. This is going to be tough."
