Fall temperatures and pleasant sunshine sat above the Woody Hayes Athletic Center for No. 2 Ohio State's midweek practice in its preparation for the Indiana Hoosiers.

Urban Meyer's team is 4-0 and set to host its second Big Ten game in as many weeks on Saturday. The Buckeyes and 3-1 Hoosiers meet at 3:30 p.m.

Meyer met with reporters after practice to give updates.

NOTES:

  • On Curtis Samuel, his development and the way the player was patient before getting his opportunity to be a main component of the offense: "That's when people transfer but he worked his tail off and is getting his turn ... I'd say probably 60 percent would say, 'I'm out' but I think that's a great story for him."
  • "You don't usually have that quality of player waiting in the wings but we had a perfect storm last year with Braxton Miller being in there too."
  • On Indiana: "I think their coach is terrific. In the last four years, the level, the quality of player has continued to get better and better as the reason why they're a good team."
  • Meyer credited Billy Price and Pat Elflein as the reason the offensive line has developed so quickly: "Without those two that doesn't happen."
  • "Branden Bowen is making a move right now."
  • Meyer talked about Indiana native Terry McLaurin's recruitment and said he came to camp and wasn't good enough to play at Ohio State: "We told him what he needed to do and he's one of those kids, you could tell he went home and worked on it for two hours every day."
  • Demario McCall is "doing a very good job" of taking advantage of his opportunities.
  • More on Kevin Wilson and Indiana, he's been creative with making a scheme around his best players: "I've always respected him for that."
  • Dante Booker remains probable for Saturday. He's practicing but is not 100 percent yet.
  • On J.T. Barrett: "When I hear someone say 'he's just a system quarterback' I say 'you're damn right he is.' I think all good quarterbacks are system quarterbacks."
  • Robert Landers "creates havoc" on the defensive line and does it differently because he's a smaller, twitched up guy: "It's evident Larry Johnson has done a very good job with him."
  • K.J. Hill is "getting close" with his sprained ankle and said there are no other injuries to report.
