Ohio State defensive end Tyquan Lewis doesn't normally get much national or conference recognition. That changed on Tuesday.

The redshirt junior is the 2016 recipient of the Smith-Brown Defensive Lineman of the Year Award, given to the Big Ten's best defensive lineman. The award was announced on Tuesday on the Big Ten Network.

Lewis also earned first-team All-Big Ten honors. His 7.5 sacks this season lead the Buckeyes, as do his 10 tackles for loss. The sacks are tied for sixth-most in the Big Ten and tackles for loss are good for 17th in the league. Lewis also has five quarterback hurries, broke up two passes and has forced three fumbles this season.

One of the three returning starters on Ohio State's defense entering the 2016 season, Lewis' teammates voted him team captain. The Tarboro, North Carolina, native took a long road to Ohio State but is now recognized among the league's best.

The last Ohio State player to win Big Ten Defensive Lineman of the Year is Joey Bosa, who received the honor after the 2014 season.
