Former Ohio State running back Warren Ball has suffered a knee injury that will knock him out for the rest of the year, according to Brett McMurphy.

Because this is his sixth year of eligibility after a redshirt season at Ohio State and a medical hardship last fall, Ball's college career is effectively over.

After transferring to the University of Akron in the winter of 2016, Ball started two games in the fall of 2016 before suffering his first of two season-ending injuries with the Zips.

Ball played sparingly during his time in Columbus, often playing third-fiddle to a combination of Carlos Hyde, Ezekiel Elliott and a host of respective second-string backs. He was the last remaining active recruit of former head coach Jim Tressel.

Ball transferred from Ohio State after graduating with a degree in sports administration and is pursuing a Master's degree in sports administration.

Through the first four games this fall for the Zips, Ball accumulated 75 carries for 332 yards and four touchdowns, leading the team in rushing.
