Ohio State coach Urban Meyer liked what he saw from the "blackout" in Ohio Stadium last weekend.
During his appearance on The Urban Meyer Show on 97.1 The Fan on Thursday, Meyer implied he would like to make the blackout a new annual tradition in the Shoe.
"I’m going to push down the road, I think we got to have some kind of a night game like that every year where we darken up the stadium and have some fun and create our own little tradition," Meyer said. "There’s nothing wrong with adding to already great tradition, and I know our fans loved it and were much appreciative."
While last week's effort to "Blackout the Shoe" was started by Block O and announced just days before Saturday's 39-38 win over Penn State, the effort appeared to be effective, as the stands were filled with a majority of Ohio State fans wearing black. That could lead to university-coordinated efforts that are announced further in advance in the future.
Meyer was also impressed with how loud Ohio State's fans were near the end of the game as the Buckeyes mounted a fourth-quarter comeback.
"Buckeye Nation’s had a couple fun (games) in that stadium a couple times here in the last two years," Meyer said, referencing last year's overtime win against Michigan in addition to Saturday's win over Penn State. "I kind of heard well, Ohio State fans aren’t that loud. What, are you kidding me? They were over-the-top and were much appreciated."
