Gant entered the transfer portal on Sept. 22 following the team's win over Tulsa after his role with the Buckeyes appeared to shrink. Gant played 41 snaps in Ohio State's season opener against Minnesota – the third-most of any linebacker behind Teradja Mitchell and Tommy Eichenberg – saw just five snaps against Oregon and one snap against Tulsa over the next two weeks.
In his four seasons at Ohio State, Gant appeared in 25 games and recorded 29 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.
After playing in just three games this year, Gant is eligible to take a redshirt for the 2021 season and will still have two seasons of eligibility remaining at Toledo after the NCAA granted all players an extra season of eligibility due to the impacts of COVID-19 on the 2020 season.
