Ohio State is down to its third-string quarterback.
Devin Brown, who was starting in place of Kyle McCord after the regular Buckeye starter transferred to Syracuse, has exited the Cotton Bowl with an apparent lower-body injury, being escorted back to the Buckeyes' locker room in the second quarter.
Freshman quarterback Lincoln Kienholz has taken over the position for Ohio State.
Brown came up limping following a first-quarter tackle for loss. He completed a pass to Carnell Tate on the next play and tried to stick it out for a fourth-and-3 attempt from the Missouri 26-yard line but after he shifted from quarterback to out wide, Ryan Day called a timeout and sent out the field goal unit.
Brown went back out for Ohio State's next series but the team went three-and-out as he took a brutal hit on a blindside sack.
He was escorted back to the locker room during the Buckeyes' next defensive series.
Prior to his exit, Brown went 4-of-6 for 20 yards passing. Kienholz is 4-of-5 for 25 yards on his freshman year entering the Cotton Bowl.
Brown came out of the locker room without his helmet in the second half.
