Ohio State paid tribute to Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau ahead of its first football game of the 2024 season.
Before kicking off the season against Akron at Ohio Stadium on Saturday, Ohio State held a moment of silence in remembrance of the Gaudreaus after the former Columbus Blue Jackets star and his brother were killed on Thursday night when they were struck by a car while cycling in Salem County, New Jersey.

Johnny Gaudreau, who was entering his third season with the Blue Jackets after signing with Columbus in 2022, was only 31 years old. Matthew Gaudreau, who played hockey alongside his older brother at Boston College, was just 29.
Johnny Gaudreau played in the NHL for 10 seasons before his passing. He was an NHL All-Star in seven of those 10 seasons, playing eight years with the Calgary Flames before joining the Blue Jackets.
