Nine practices into his second season, Dominic Kirks officially became a Buckeye.

After Ohio State's practice on Tuesday, Kirks became the third Buckeye to shed his black stripe this spring, following second-year cornerback Miles Lockhart and third-year tight end Max Klare, an offseason transfer from Purdue.

Kirks appeared in three games during his freshman season at Ohio State, earning two snaps against Akron, three snaps against Marshall and two snaps against Purdue. Entering 2025, he is battling C.J. Hicks and Idaho State transfer Logan George for a spot in the two-deep behind Kenyatta Jackson Jr. and Caden Curry. Kirks is also competing with third-year Joshua Mickens and first-year Zion Grady for those spots.

A four-star recruit ranked as the No. 162 overall prospect in the 2024 class, Kirks was committed to Washington before flipping to Ohio State. He was one of three defensive linemen the Buckeyes signed in the class, joining five-star Eddrick Houston and three-star Eric Mensah.

With Kirks' black stripe removal, three members of Ohio State's 2024 class still have their black stripes: Mensah, wide receiver Damarion Witten and punter Nick McLarty.

In addition to Kirks, second-year offensive lineman Simon Lorentz added scarlet to his helmet on Tuesday. Lorentz was an All-Ohio honoree as a senior at Dover High School and is a preferred walk-on for the Buckeyes.
