An unrelenting rain descended upon Columbus Sunday, preventing Urban Meyer's fifth Ohio State football team from taking its team picture at Ohio Stadium. Still, that didn't halt the team's annual media day.

The Buckeyes got a day off from practice following their first two-a-day of camp Friday and an intrasquad scrimmage Saturday. A mass of reporters and cameras represented their reward.

Meyer met with reporters in the team room at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.

NOTES:

  • On Ohio State having nine practices in the next six days: "This will make or break us this week. This is when its will."
  • Parris Campbell and Terry McLaurin as two guys that are "selfless" and can do things like wide receiver Evan Spencer did in 2014 like blocking on the outside for example.
  • Freshman wide receiver Austin Mack came in very well developed because of his high school program and personal coach in the offseason. "He will play this year."
  • Mike Weber and Curtis Samuel are Ohio State's top-2 running backs, Meyer said: "They're not Zeke-level yet, and that's an awful high standard we hold him to, but that's the standard."
  • "I'm just trying to convince the Bosa family to have one more and we'll take him." — Meyer on when he heard Nick Bosa's name Sunday. Added Nick walks, talks and does everything like his older brother, Joey.
  • Ohio State is taking it easy with Bosa to start with to make sure his knee is 100 percent.
  • Gareon Conley is an NFL corner "some day."
  • Darius Slade is out for the year with a ruptured Achilles tendon.
  • Junior college transfer offensive lineman Malcolm Pridgeon also has a knee injury and is out for three months. "Offensive line depth is a concern."
  • Dontre Wilson leads at Ohio State's punt and kick returner. Demario McCall is close.
  • "Michael Jordan is for sure playing, that's done." Though Meyer later added Jordan is not a starter at left guard yet. That spot remains up in the air.
  • Jahsen Wint, Keandre Jones, Jake Hausmann, Jordan Fuller and Binjimen Victor are other names Meyer mentioned as freshmen who have stood out in camp.
  • "There's never going to be a time where the safety of our players is going to be jeopardized," Meyer on balancing the workload Ohio State puts its team through even though it is so young.
  • Meyer believes Cincinnati should be in the Big 12. He is a UC graduate.
  • Meyer was pleased with Ohio State's first scrimmage on Saturday. Added the defensive line is "gaining a lot of momentum right now."
  • On Noah Brown, Meyer said he isn't quite back to where he was a year ago before his injury: "I love having him back."
  • "This is The Edge time. I'd say we're very average right now and we're going to see this week if we cross it."
  • Meyer has an idea what Ohio State's starting lineup will be, but he isn't announcing it yet because it is not set in stone.
