After Ohio State's men's basketball team upended Illinois in Champaign, gaining a game toward a possible regular season Big Ten championship, the same team tanked hard on the road at Maryland.
Fueled by an explosion from Joey Brunk in just his third start of the season, Ohio State throttled Michigan State at the Schott, and then days later looked absolutely hapless in the second half against the hated Wolverines in the regular season finale.
Having lost three of their final four games of the regular season (including an ignoble loss to Nebraska of all teams), the Buckeyes enter the postseason with absolutely no momentum and lots of questions about the team's toughness, about the coaching staff's second-half decision making, and about the program's future under Chris Holtmann.
This week The Dubcast has some frank discussions about the situation, and what's comes next for the Buckeye hoops program. We'll also discuss the NFL Combine and how Ohio State's entrants performed in Indianapolis last week.
Plus, Ask Us Anything (which, as always, you can do by emailing us at dubcast@elevenwarriors.com) talks about some really strange 1994 movies involving children and older women, as well as how adolescent Johnny and Andy would have spent a million bucks.
RUN OF THE SHOW
0:00 Things aren't going great for Ohio State's basketball team, no matter what Chris Holtmann had to say after his team's loss to Michigan in the final game of the regular season.
07:45 How hot is Chris Holtmann's seat at this point in his tenure? Is next season make or break time?
15:45 What is the difference between the past four seasons and the final four seasons of the Thad Matta era, really?
20:50 The Buckeyes enter the Big Ten Tournament as a 6-seed. How many games can this team win, with Purdue looming in a hypothetical second game?
23:17 Ohio State' entrants in the NFL Scouting Combine acquitted themselves rather well, all things considered.
33:30 The Buckeyes participating in the Combine spoke highly of several returning Ohio State players. With Spring Ball sparting today, let's talk about the team's stars-to-be.
37:30 Ask Us Anything: What game show would we perform best in? Why were there so many creepy movies about kids trying to hook up with adult women in 1994? And what would adolescent Andy & Johnny have done with a hypothetical million bucks?
61:00 Quick Cals: Kirk Herbstreit will call some NFL games this season, via Amazon. What does this tell us about the future of streaming services and the nation's true sporting pastime?
And that'll do it! Thanks as always to Travis for the cool, cool logo, thanks to you for listening and checking out the Dry Goods store, and we'll see you next week!
