It's hard out here for a college coach, to be sure. The transfer portal is both an opportunity and a burden, but when you're an incoming coach that has to re-recruit the old roster to convince them to hang around, it's definitely more of the latter than the former. On the other hand, part of the appeal of hiring Jake Diebler as the next head men's basketball coach was that you weren't (in theory) going to have to be all that worried about it.
Welp! Three major departures in relatively short order (including one to your in-conference mortal enemy which is now led by a potential coaching target) has changed that narrative, and this week the Eleven Dubcast tries to figure out how OSU men's basketball got to where it is now, how much Diebler could've actually done about it, and where we go from here. There have been and will continue to be some nice pickups by the Buckeyes in the portal, but at this point there had better be.
Also, the NFL Draft is coming up, and the weirdest part about that will be seeing what kind of strange bedfellows will be created after the hiring of a certain head coach. Fun!
- Okpara leaving sucks, although George is less broken up about Roddy
- Ohio State needs distance shooting and may have some trouble finding it, even if they're successful in other pickups
- The draft might actually be kinda... boring?
- Ask Us Anything - which you can do by sending us questions to dubcast@elevenwarriors.com - wants to see how tired we can get
- Michigan football on probation??? Wow, might as well cancel the season
- New NCAA rules on helmet communication and the dreaded two-minute warning
- Congrats to Kyle on his third Olympics
And that'll do it! Thanks as always for listening and checking out the Dry Goods store, and we'll see you next week!
