For the first time in three seasons, Ohio State has at least a second-team All-Big Ten performer.
On Tuesday, the conference announced that Buckeye guard Bruce Thornton is a second-team All-Big Ten selection by the coaches and media. Seldom-used forward Kalen Etzler was also recognized as Ohio State's pick for the Sportsmanship Award.
Thornton leads the Buckeyes in scoring this season with 17.5 points per game, adding a team-high 4.5 assists per contest. Those numbers rank eighth and seventh in the Big Ten. His 1.1 steals per game are tied with fellow guard Micah Parrish for the team lead.
A starter since the first game of his freshman season, Thornton has already picked up 1,463 career points, which is 22nd all-time at Ohio State. With 399 career assists, he needs just three more dimes to surpass Larry Bolden for the 10th most in school history.
Thornton was a third-team All-Big Ten selection by the media last season. He is the first to earn at least second-team honors since E.J. Liddell was named first-team All-Big Ten in 2022.
Thornton and Ohio State open the Big Ten Tournament against Iowa on Wednesday. Tipoff is scheduled for 25 minutes after the 3:30 p.m. game before theirs ends, or approximately 6 p.m., in Indianapolis.
