The first road test for Ohio State this season has come to pass. The Buckeyes opened conference play against the Michigan State Spartans in East Lansing last Saturday Night, ultimately leaving that state up north with a 38-7 victory.
Did OSU put forth a satisfactory performance? How differently could the game have played out if the officials correctly enforced a facemask penalty on Aidan Chiles' fumble in the first half? Should fans move on to October more or less encouraged by Will Howard after throwing an interception for a second straight week? What about the defense conceding a total of over 380 yards of offense in the first halves of the last two games?
Johnny and I tackle all of these questions this week, but of course make sure to highlight the plenty of positives emerging from the Buckeyes' win over Sparty as well. Caleb Downs seems to impress a little bit more every game, and that Jeremiah Smith guy can certainly catch a football!
Additionally, the Dubcast discussion also covers:
- Despite this result, does the outlook for Jonathan Smith restoring the image of Michigan State football still appear positive?
- Ask Us Anything — writers to dubcast@elevenwarriors.com this week inquired about many topics, such as which play-by-play analysts and sideline reporters would we most like to work with as color commentators? You'll enjoy the choice I make in selecting the man I would torture as my on-field correspondent.
- Georgia vs. Alabama played out as the most dramatic finish in any major college football game so far this season. Did Ryan Williams establish himself as the sport's top receiver, or can Buckeye fans still make an argument for Jeremiah Smith?
- Michigan got bailed out so badly by the refs against Minnesota that the officiating practices surrounding enforcement of onside kicks have already changed in the rulebook only a few days later. Do the Wolverines deserve a top 10 ranking, and when will justice prevail over Ann Arbor?
- UNLV earned its first top 25 ranking in school history only a few days removed from its quarterback quitting on the team due to an NIL dispute. Which party harbors the most blame for yet another monetary controversy in this new era of college football?
- Proud S.O.B. (Southern Ohio Boy) Johnny mourns the loss of a Cincinnati icon: Pete Rose.
