The high temperature for the campus area on Wednesday will be just 4 degrees with a low of -2 degrees. Winds are expected to be over 20 miles per hour at times, leading to a wind chill of around -40 degrees.
The university said in a statement that it will continue to monitor the weather to determine if additional cancellations or an extended campus closure is needed.
The last time the Ohio State main campus closed was in January of 2014 when classes were canceled for two consecutive days due to extreme cold, similar to the cold Columbus will experience on Wednesday, in addition to a third day at the end of the month.
