The Wizard of Odds has discovered YouTube gold in the form of an old political advertisement featuring Woody Hayes speaking on behalf of Ben Espy:
Imagine that. Woody Hayes a Democrat! In 1981, the Ohio State coach, a staunch Republican, cut this commercial in support of Democrat Ben Espy, a former player under Hayes who was running for Columbus City Council. Espy, the only Democrat ever endorsed by Hayes, won and eventually rose through the political ranks. But it appears the Hayes factor is no more. Espy lost his bid in November to become Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court to Republican Robert Cupp.
That's right, the longtime Republican, who counted Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford as personal friends, endorsed a Democrat for city council in Columbus. You can imagine how well this endorsement went over in the city.
