Florida is wallowing at 3-3, and things aren't looking much better this weekend as the team heads to Jacksonville to take on arch-rival Georgia.
Will Muschamp's job could be on the line, and nobody seems more sad about it than Orlando Sentinel troll/writer, Mike Bianchi:
GAINESVILLE — Sadly, the end is drawing near.
Probably only days away now.
Coach Boom is about to become Coach Bust.
Yes, sadly, the coach with a 25-19 record, who lost at home to such perennial powers as Georgia Southern, could be on the outs. This is sad for Mike Bianchi, who is (remarkably) a paid journalist. (And no, don't even get me started on the "Coach Boom is about to become Coach Bust" line.)
Four years ago, I sat in Muschamp's office and talked with him about being the kid who grew up in Gainesville getting hired for his dream job as the new coach at the University of Florida. Now I am sitting in his office, and he is telling me about why and how that dream job has turned into this nightmare scenario; a scenario in which Muschamp had to explain to his 9-year-old son Whit why UF fans were chanting "Fire Muschamp! Fire Muschamp!" during Florida's embarrassing 42-13 homecoming loss to Missouri 10 days ago.
"After the Missouri game, my wife, Carol, said that I needed to sit down with Whit and have a talk with him about why the fans were chanting that his dad should be fired," Muschamp says. "That's not an easy conversation or a fun conversation, but like I told Whit: 'Unfortunately, when you don't win, there's one person in charge and that's me. And when you don't win at a place like UF, people want to voice their opinion and you have to deal with that.' He [Whit] didn't like it, but it was a good teaching moment."
Well, Whit, your dad is bad at his job. When he took $13.75 million to coach the Florida Gators (remarkably being extended a year after a 7-6 season that culminated in a TaxSlayer.com Bowl victory over Ohio State), there were expectations attached to that. Your dad simply hasn't met those expectations. That's the business for which he signed up.
And this is why Muschamp will be shown the door, and the only thing sad about it has been Florida's play under the former Texas defensive coordinator. The team hasn't improved, and despite a roulette wheel of offensive coordinators, its offense still looks as inept as ever.
And yet, there are still people making excuses for Will Muschamp.
A) Muschamp was handed a difficult situation. B) He made some bad choices. C) Florida isnt as good a job as some people give it credit for

Way behind in facilities; out of whack expectations RT @FSUNOLE21: @DanWolken You really don't think UF is as good a job as advertised?

What "difficult situation" did Muschamp inherit, other than the filling the shoes of a man who led Florida to two national titles in three years? Are people's expectations out of whack, or is this just another line of excuses for a coach who's clearly out of them?
I don't understand it, but don't get me wrong: it will be sad to watch Will Muschamp get the axe, but only because I hate the University of Florida.
