Florida suspended seven players last week — including play-making receiver Antonio Calloway — due to their "defrauding of the university" by using university issued credit cards at the campus bookstore to buy electronics before selling them for cash.
It's a tough break for the Gators, who open the season with a neutral site game in Arlington, Texas, against the Michigan Wolverines.
Coach Jim McElwain is not lacking confidence, however, despite being seen in Vegas as a three-point underdog. He promised a resounding victory at a student pep rally Sunday night in Gainesville.
"I love the energy, can’t wait to see you,” McElwain said. “And you know what, we’re heading to Dallas here in a couple weeks to go beat the heck out of Michigan and then come back to you guys."
McElwain would be a bad coach if he didn't think his team would win. It's a bold play nonetheless to publicly declare a rinsing of a Top 10 team on national television.
