Georgia sprinter Elija Godwin suffered one of the wildest sports injuries of all time on Tuesday, but is expected to make a full recovery.
The freshman sprinter was injured when he "backed into a stationary javelin that was resting implanted in the ground" according to a Georgia release.
Thankfully, Godwin is in stable condition after undergoing surgery and is expected to make full recovery, according to UGA Director of Sports Medicine Ron Courson.
"We would like to express appreciation for all those who acted so quickly and efficiently in coming to the aid of Elija," said Courson in the release. "Special thanks to our sports medicine staff, UGA Police Department, Athens-Clarke County Fire-Rescue, National EMS, and Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center."
