From the trailers I'd seen, with all the CGI, I was afraid it would come off as cartoonish.

Couldn't have been more wrong. It's second only to "Saving Private Ryan" of all the WWII movies I've seen...and I've seen them all.

It is perhaps the most historically accurate WWII movie you'll ever see as well. They did a beautiful job of weaving Pearl Harbor, Doolittle Tokyo raid, Coral Sea and Midway battles together seamlessly and logically.
