Bad Company released their eponymous debut album today in 1974. Not many bands can score a #1 album right out of the gate but not many bands can boast the talent that Bad Company had. Led by one of the all-time great rock frontmen, Paul Rodgers, Bad Company also had former Mott the Hoople guitarist Mick Ralphs, former King Crimson bassist Boz Burrell, and Rodgers' former drummer from Free, Simon Kirke, on their roster.
Packing eight songs into a crisp 34 minutes and 45 seconds, "Bad Company" has sold over five million copies. Both singles off the album, "Can't Get Enough" and "Movin' On", both were top 20 hits. Nowadays you can't listen to classic rock radio for more than an hour or two without hearing a song off this album. Tracks like "Can't Get Enough", "Rock Steady", "Ready For Love" (a Mott the Hoople cover), "Bad Company", and "Movin' On" have been on air every single day for the past 46 years.
The original incarnation of Bad Company would go on to release five more albums and four of those five would reach the top 15. Despite their massive popularity and the undeniable star power of Paul Rodgers (he has played with Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, David Gilmour, Slash, Brian May, Steve Miller, and Buddy Guy over the years), neither Rodgers nor Bad Company are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
