Right band, wrong time.
Gov't Mule probably would be a household name had they debuted in the 60s or 70s. Spawned from an Allman Brothers Band resurgence in the late 80s, guitarist/singer Warren Haynes and bassist Allen Woody spent their free time in between Allman Bros. activities to create arguably the finest blues rock/jam band of the past 35 years.
Gov't Mule released their eponymous debut today in 1995 and they haven't slowed down since. A rare combination of blues, groove, powerful vocals and one of the best guitar players in the game today, Mule has carved out their own niche while packing concert halls around the world.
The cast of characters that have dropped by to jam with the Mule is almost as impressive as the band itself. Bernie Worrell,Les Claypool, Phil Lesh, Peter Frampton, Derek Trucks, Ann Wilson, Cleveland's own John Popper, Grace Potter, David Allen Coe, and many more have added to the tableau that is the Mule.
If you dig rock and roll, the blues, southern rock, jam rock, clam rock, or if you're just a fella that likes to jam out with his ham out, or a lady that likes to jam out with her clam out, the Mule has what you need.
Thrown back to the Bad Company TIMH, here is the Mule covering Paul Rodgers and Free on their debut:
